Barry Gibson, one of Canada's best-known media lawyers, died yesterday of a heart attack in his office at the Vancouver law firm Farris, Vaughn, Wills & Murphy. He was perhaps best known as counsel to 100 newspapers, magazines and book publishers in Western Canada. Gibson was also the long-time lawyer for The Vancouver Sun's news department.

NEW WESTMINSTER (NEWS1130) - New Westminster Police say tenants of a Royal Avenue high-rise have been allowed to return home.  The building was evacuated around 10 last night after police discovered several jars of an unknown chemical substance.

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) -  If you own a home in Vancouver you'll likely be paying about 6 per cent more in property taxes.  That's if the city approves its budget next month.  The proposed increase is a lot lower than the 10 per cent originally planned. It is currently sitting at just under six per cent.
