Police end murder investigation linked to Flamengo goalie, want him charged
RIO DE JANEIRO - Brazilian police have closed their investigation into the alleged murder of soccer star Bruno's one-time lover, saying he ordered her killing.
Now it is up to prosecutors to formally charge Bruno, the former goalkeeper and captain of Flamengo, Brazil's most popular soccer team.
Police say he ordered the kidnapping and killing of 25-year-old Eliza Samudio, who was fighting in court to have the player recognized as father of her young son.
She has been missing since June.
A police spokeswoman in Minas Gerais state, where the alleged crime took place and where Bruno is jailed, says they are delivering their investigation to prosecutors Friday.
Under Brazilian law, charges can be filed in a case only after the investigation ends.
